A ladder to success across all roles - Communication

‘The Communication Skills’ have become a clichéd phrase being used across schools, colleges, and platforms related to job seekers. However, how many of us actually understand the various nuances associated with it? n this article, we will try to demystify this simple yet important skill-set.

First of all, it is essential to understand that it is a set of three key aspects, namely, speaking skills, writing skills, and non-verbal communication. All these aspects play their own unique and important role in an individual’s professional life.

While the core purpose of communication is to ‘understand and be understood, it is the quality of communication that can make all the difference in the world. As we can see around us, individuals often get known and recognized by the way they communicate. How quickly we judge them as being ‘civilized’, ‘educated’, ‘elite’, or otherwise. We see how effective leaders give their speeches, their choice of words, their tonality, etc. – everything contributes to the quality of communication they demonstrate.

Goes beyond roles

Communication skills are not related to a specific role or position. These

are skills required at every step and level of one’s career progression. The

only difference is that the level and quality of communication becomes

varied. As you achieve higher positions in your professional journey, you

need communication skills of a higher order that are more effective and

pertinent.

Impacts personal as well as professional life

Better communicators perform well professionally as well as personally. Relationships too depend on effective communication. You have experienced how a certain miscommunication leads to a rift in a friendship, at times permanent. In the professional space particularly, communication is the tool that you use to reflect your ideas and opinions to the external world. Those who are not adept in communication, are often considered to be ‘low in intelligence’ irrespective of the brilliant ideas they may have in their minds. Communication being a very vast topic in scope, we will endeavor to bring you more on this topic in subsequent editions. Watch this space for more!
